Tiramisu is an extremely popular Italian dessert. Tiramisu cake is made with special lady finger cookies dipped in coffee syrup, which are layered with mascarpone cheese and whipped cream and flavored with cocoa. You can use plain butter cookies in case you do not find lady finger cookies. This cake can also be made in single serving cups. I haven’t used any raw eggs or liquor in this recipe. The great thing about tiramisu is that it is a no bake cake. So you can actually make it at home without an oven. Please do try this recipe and share your valuable comments. Happy cooking, Shuchi

Ingredients (serves 6-8)

  • Lady finger cookies 16
  • Coffee 3 tbsp
  • Water 1 cup
  • Mascarpone cheese 1 cup
  • Heavy whipping cream 1 cup
  • Sugar 4 tbsp/¼ cup
  • Vanilla essence 1 tsp

Ingredients For Decoration

  • Unsweetened cocoa powder 2 tsp

Other Things

  • Small steel strainer to sift the cocoa
  • Need 1 9x6 inch glass container. I have used rectangular but feel free to use any

Method of preparation

  1. In a pan take 1 cup water. Add in 3 tbsp instant coffee. Let it boil for a minute. Turn off the heat. Let this coffee mixture cool down completely.

  1. Take chilled whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla essence in a mixing bowl. With a hand blender, whisk the cream for a couple of minutes or until stiff. The cream will become very thick and will look like the picture below. Keep the whipped cream in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it.

  1. In a big bowl whisk mascarpone and whipped cream mixture together until well blended.
  2. Take a lady finger cookies and dip it in the coffee mixture. Take out the cookie immediately after dipping it and arrange it in glass container. Repeat the same process with 8 cookies and arrange a fine layer of coffee dipped cookies in the dish.

  1. Spread a layer of whipped cream and mascarpone mixed together on top of cookies. spread it evenly with the help of knife.

  1. Take a lady finger cookie, dip it in coffee mixture and put it on top of cream and mascarpone layer. Repeat the process and arrange a layer of lady finger cookies on top of cream.

  3. In a small stainless steel strainer, take 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder and gently sift it all over the cake as shown in the following picture.

  1. Tiramisu cake is ready to set. Now keep it in the fridge/refrigerator to set the cake.
  2. Drooling homemade tiramisu cake is ready to serve. Make this tiramisu cake with your kids for New year party, Christmas, birthday parties or whenever you feel like making it.

Tips/ Suggestions:

  1. I make my mascarpone cheese at home. It is very easy to make mascarpone. Warm 1 cup heavy whipping cream to 200F. Add 2 tsp lemon juice and stir for a couple of minutes. The cream will be a little thicker. Turn off the heat. Let it cool to room temperature. Take a sieve. Put a layer of cheese cloth on sieve. Put sieve on a bowl and transfer the cream on sieve. Let it set in the fridge for at least 15 hours. After 15 hours you will see thick mascarpone cheese. About 2 tbsp whey will separate out from the cream.
  2. Make sure that the cream is absolutely chilled before you start whipping it.
  3. You can also make individual bowls of tiramisu cakes
  4. Just dip the cookies in coffee syrup and immediately take it out and arrange in the dish.
  5. You can use some other cookies in case if you do not find lady fingers. Make sure that the cookies you use do not have any flavor. For this recipe any plain cookies will be fine. Do not use glucose biscuits an they get soggy as soon as you dip it in coffee syrup.
  6. Make sure that the cream is absolutely chilled before you start whipping it.
