Boondi Raita is a delicious preparation goes with all sorts of Indian meals. While boondi raita increases the taste of simple dal chawal menu at the same time it is a must for a festive menu. The word boondi has come from a Hindi word Boond means drop. Boondis are small deep fried balls of gram flour paste. Raita is a yogurt based Indian dish. It is a coolant and can be a combination of herbs, fruits or vegetables mixed in beaten yogurt. It is generally served as an accompaniment to the spicy main dishes. Boondi raita is a delicious preparation goes very well with tehri, khichdi, vegetable Biryani, and also with poori and aloo tamatar ka rasa. Ingredients
(Serves 4)

Method of preparation

  1. Following picture is of boondi. You can directly use this boondi or soak it in water for 2 minutes.

  1. Soak  boondi in warm water 2 minutes.

  1. Beat yogurt in a glass bowl add milk, salt, black salt, mint powder and sugar.
  2. Squeeze the booni lightly to remove the water, now add Boondi in the yogurt and mix gently.
  3. Keep in the refrigerator for ½ an hour.
  4. Garnish with red chilly powder and roasted cumin powder  at the time of serving.
  5. Boondi Raita goes well with any kind of North Indian food. You can serve it with sabji paratha, tehri, biryani, poori aloo or with any other combos or daily comfort food.

Some Tips/ Suggestions:

  1. Readymade boondi is available at Indian stores, in case if you do not find boondi in your part of world, here is the recipe to make boondi at home. Boondi can be easily made at home.
  2. You can directly add boondi in the yogurt or you can soak boondi in the warm water for 5 minutes to remove the extra oil.
  3. Fresh mint leaves enhances the flavor for raita. Use fresh mint leaves if possible otherwise use mint powder.
  4. Mint can be easily grown at home garden.
